The headteacher is ultimately respoonsible for the day-to-day management of the school.  The governing body's role is to provide strategic management in order to support the role of the headteacher.  They are a vital part of the school's leadership.  

The governing body's responsibilities are: managing the budget; appointing staff; monitoring progress; setting targets and deciding admissions.

The governing body meets at least three times per year.  Much of the work of the governing body is completed at sub-committe level.
