Online Safety

This section gives you all the information you might need about our school.

Online Safety

Our school's Online Safety Co-ordinator is Joanna Kenton and our Online Safety Governor is Gemma Murray.

The internet has become an integral part of our and our children’s lives. A world has opened up which offers many positive opportunities.

Children start using computers from a very early age and are increasingly using the Internet more and more whether it is at home, in school, on their mobile phones or on a games console. It is really important that parents and carers work with school to ensure children stay safe in their use of technology. When we talk about online safety, we are not just talking about the internet. We are talking about the use of computers, games consoles (such as X-Box), mobile phones, televisions, tablets (such as the iPad) and many other things. With this in mind, Internet Safety and knowing how to help protect children and young people online is essential.

• Educate yourself on online safety so you are empowered to help your child
• Start having conversations about online safety as soon as your child is using the internet
• Ask your child to show you what they do online and ask them questions about it
• Find out how to set parental controls for all devices and agree boundaries for usage (ensure games are age appropriate for your child)                                                                                                                                                  • Encourage your child to tell you if anything online unsettles them

Smoothwall

As a school we use Smoothwall to protect pupils when searching the Internet. It is a tool that blocks pupils accessing site which may contain inappropriate pictures or information. occasionally, school may contact a parent to alert them if their child is carrying out frequent searches which are inappropriate for their age. Some parents may be unaware of the sites children are accessing at home and this alerts parents to checking that safeguards are in place at home to protect their children.
