At Emmaus, we want to instil a love of music within our school community. We promote a love of music through listening to different genres of music, singing, using instruments and attending/performing in concerts. We recognise that music is present in so much of our everyday lives, and we value it as a vital aspect of our curriculum.
The Charanga Music School is a key aspect of our music teaching. The Musical School Scheme provides week-by-week lessons for each year group in the school, from ages 5–11. The Scheme supports all the requirements of the National Curriculum and is in line with published Ofsted guidance. Charanga use different inter-related dimensions of music in a spiral curriculum, which can read about below.
Our Concepts and Content Organiser shows what musical knowledge and skills are taught at each stage of children's development and links these to specific pieces of music. Our Pedagogy document outlines how we teach music and some of the research that informs our teaching.
